James 4:6 (ESV)
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'
Talk About It
Have you ever wanted the biggest cookie or the first turn and ended up fighting with a sibling? James says that when we try to get our own way, it leads to fighting and trouble—that’s called being “proud.” But God doesn’t want us to be selfish or prideful. He loves a humble heart, one that asks for help and puts others first.
Being humble isn’t thinking badly about yourself—it’s knowing you need God’s help and caring about others. When we humble ourselves—admit we need God—He gives us grace, which is kindness we don’t deserve. He helps us stand strong against the Devil and make good choices! Next time you want your own way, stop and pray for God to give you a humble heart. God promises to lift you up and help you get closer to Him.
For Parents to Explain
God, thank You that You love people who are humble. Teach us not to be proud or selfish, but to trust You and care for others. Amen.
